Do you know how when you really love someone, you want to get to know them well? You look forward to spending time with them. You cherish your moments together. After parting, you look forward to the next time that you will meet, and when you are away from the person there will be moments that you think of them in their absence.
A Christian should desire to know God and to spend time with Him on a daily basis. There is nothing in this world that is more important than living a life wholly surrendered to God; for He is why we are even here in the first place. He created mankind to be in the image of Himself. It is the duty of mankind to know and to worship Him; and to love Him, as He first loved us.
It is not a burden to spend time with God; not if you desire to know Him.
In 1 John it states:
“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”
When you read the Word of God you are encountering God Himself. He is the Word. That is how you hear His voice; by reading the Scripture with an open mind and prayerful heart.
Jesus says in John 10:27,28: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
When you seek Christ with all of your heart you will hear Him speak through the Scriptures. He will not lead you into temptation, and He will not lead you into sin. He will guide you in paths of righteousness, and the sweet blessings of fellowship with Him will quiet and uplift your soul.
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
There is no greater blessing than to walk with the Lord, and there is no promise greater than the hope of salvation and spending eternity with Him where there will be no more tears, pain, sickness, or sorrow. All things in this life will pass away, but the Word of the Lord endures forever!
